History
Who We Are
Dransfields was established in 1923 as James Dransfield & Co.
The company started out as a textile engineering firm which produced precision machined spares for the burgeoning Lancashire textiles industry. In 1911 there were 246 textile mills operating in the Oldham area alone.
During the 1960s the decline of the textile industry in the UK had begun and by the late 1980s there were only a handful of cotton mills left in Lancashire.
It became apparent that in order to survive, Dransfields had to diversify into other areas of activity. By the late 80s the business started to become established as a precision engineering company focused on offering a high level of service to a diverse range of industries. These included aerospace, automotive, food and drink, packaging, paper, printing and pharmaceuticals.
Throughout the 90s the service was enhanced to provide a true 24/7 precision engineering service.
By the late 90s the business began to expand, opening a site at Trafford Park Manchester to service what was then a strong industrial presence in one of the largest industrial parks in Europe.
The business expanded again in 2004 with the purchase of a similar 24/7 business based in Bradford. W B Lee & Co was a well-established business providing a precision engineering service to West Yorkshire.
In 2008 Dransfields opened a unit in Rotherham to service companies within the Sheffield and M1 corridor areas. This site trades as Dearne Valley Engineering Services Ltd.
Today Dransfields provide a comprehensive range of services carried out by a highly skilled team. The business continually reinvests in new machinery to help expand its capacity whilst also remaining at the forefront of technological advances. The core values remain the same today as they have always been, to provide the very best quality, service and value.
